NLWA appoints Buckingham Group for £8.8m preparatory works contract

9 Dec 2019

North London Waste Authority (NLWA) has awarded the £8.8m Laydown Area (West) and Eastern Access contract to Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd (Buckingham Group).

The contract is part of the preparatory works for the North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP). It includes constructing the western part of the laydown area, a site to the east of the River Lea, that will provide parking for construction vehicles, temporary offices and staff welfare facilities, as well as areas to store and fabricate construction materials. The contract also includes improvements to Lee Park Way and constructing a new access bridge over the River Lea into Edmonton EcoPark for light construction vehicles, staff and visitors.

Buckingham Group were appointed by NLWA in January 2019 to construct the eastern part of the laydown area, which was the first contract awarded for the NLHPP preparatory works.

Significant progress has been made in 2019 to prepare Edmonton EcoPark for construction, and 2020 will mark the start of the building works for the flagship Resource Recovery Facility which will maximise recycling from bulky waste (including metal, wood and plastic).
